Flight of the Earls - Popham 2009

The "Flight of the Earls" is a name we have given to a group of Irish based pilots that intend to make their way by microlight over to the Popham Microlight show in May. It is not an organized event as such, but a group who regularly fly together decided that they would do it in 2008 and invite any other crews who would like to do likewise to come along. The 2008 event was a great success and now the 2009 trip is taking shape. It will be up to all individual crews to properly do their individual flight planning..... to file their own flight plans and GAR forms for both the flight to Popham & back again, to organise all PPR required and to organise all fuel needed... do not rely on other pilots crews to have anything organised for you... to this end we have included flight plan forms and GAR forms below for you to download, a comprehensive guide to the low level corridor is also provided. We have no set agenda for getting there, however we envisage the following:
Friday
2nd May:
Early arrival at N.Ireland airfield, get together,
activate flight plan & fly across
to Glassonby airfield, south of Carlisle, see HERE.
Close our flight plan, coffee, refuel and make our way
south down through the low level corridor between Manchester &
Liverpool. Good info HERE on this route.
Transit via VRP Ashcroft at south of the Low-Level route and make
our way to an airfield to overnight (possibly Shobdon)... all shown with the red arrows on
the chart.
Saturday
3rd May:
Short hop down south and arrive at Popham among
all the other arrivals, see Green arrows on chart.... Land, book in,
pitch tents, erect tri-colours and have a great day, meal on
Saturday night........ Make our way home Sunday or make a week of it
